CreArtBox commissions and presents new work through open, internationally accessible calls. In 2022, we received over 500 applications across a single year. Reviewed by our artistic team - selected artists work with us from concept through premiere.
Composer-in-Residence
A two-year residency. Multiple performances, U.S. and European tours, interdisciplinary projects, and major commissions.
International composers
Original chamber works, 5–15 minutes, for ensembles of up to 8 musicians. Open to composers of any nationality.
American composers
A parallel call for U.S.-based composers. Selected works premiere on the New York Series at The DiMenna Center.
Visual artists
For visual artists, designers, photographers, video and installation artists to enhance live classical music.
FAQ.
Is there a submission fee?
Yes - most of our open calls carry a small administrative submission fee, used to support the review process and to underwrite stipends for selected artists. The exact fee for each cycle is listed on the application page. Fee waivers are available on request for applicants with demonstrated financial need - write to info@creartbox.nyc.
Can I submit from outside the United States?
Yes, for the International Call for Scores, the Composer-in-Residence, and the Call for Visual Artists. CreArtBox has presented composers and visual artists from more than 20 countries.
Will the ensemble revise my piece?
We work closely with composers in rehearsal. Final revisions are always your decision.
Do you cover travel for the premiere?
For the Composer-in-Residence program: yes. For other calls: case by case.
Is there an age limit?
No. CreArtBox has premiered work by composers across a wide range of ages.
How long until I hear back?
Composer-in-Residence: quarterly review. Calls for Scores and Visual Artists: within 8 weeks of the deadline.
