Open calls for composers and artists.
CreArtBox commissions and presents new work through open, internationally accessible calls. In 2022, we received over 500 applications across a single year. Reviewed by our artistic team - selected artists work with us from concept through premiere.
International composers
Works for any instrumentation, from composers of any nationality, at any age and any career stage. Two works per application.
American composers
A parallel call for American composers: US citizens wherever they live, and composers who have lived and worked in the US for a significant period.
Composer-in-Residence
A two-year residency. Multiple performances, U.S. and European tours, interdisciplinary projects, and major commissions.
Visual artists
For visual artists, designers, photographers, video and installation artists to enhance live classical music.
FAQ.
Is there a submission fee?
Yes - most of our open calls carry a small administrative submission fee, which pays for the selection process: preparing and anonymising the material, and the readers' time. The exact fee for each cycle is listed on the application page. Fee waivers are available on request for applicants with demonstrated financial need - write to info@creartbox.nyc.
Can I submit from outside the United States?
Yes, for the International Call for Scores, the Composer-in-Residence, and the Call for Visual Artists. CreArtBox has presented composers and visual artists from more than 20 countries. The American Call for Scores is the one with a condition attached, and it is the definition our funders use: US citizens wherever they live, and composers who have lived and worked in the US for a significant period. Will the ensemble revise my piece?
We work closely with composers in rehearsal. Final revisions are always your decision.
Do you cover travel for the premiere?
For the Composer-in-Residence program: yes. For other calls: case by case.
Is there an age limit?
No. CreArtBox has premiered work by composers across a wide range of ages.
How long until I hear back?
Composer-in-Residence: quarterly review. Calls for Scores: the reading runs in two rounds and takes months, so for the 2026 cycle every applicant hears back by spring 2027.
