CreArtBox's Composer-in-Residence is a two-year residency (August – June) for a single composer who joins the ensemble as a full creative partner. The residency involves close collaboration with the players, multiple performances across the U.S. and European tours, and interdisciplinary projects that integrate music with visual arts and theatre.
What the residency includes
- Multiple works performed across CreArtBox's season and international projects.
- Deep collaboration through rehearsals, workshops, and creative exploration.
- Potential travel with the ensemble for performances.
- Engagement in audience discussions and educational initiatives.
- Professional recordings of performed compositions.
- Opportunity for major commissions - previous residents received $10,000 commissions.
Ideal candidate profile
We look for composers with a strong, distinctive voice and chamber music experience; an interest in performer collaboration and ensemble development; the ability to write for diverse instrumental and vocal combinations; comfort with thematic programming and curation; willingness to engage audiences through lectures and workshops; and availability for NYC-based rehearsals plus potential travel.
Eligibility
- Open to composers of any nationality.
- All career stages welcome.
- Must have chamber ensemble writing experience.
