Where music meets image.

CreArtBox produces work across four formats: visual concerts that pair chamber music with projection and design, full staged productions in opera, ballet and musical theatre, outreach in schools and public libraries, and digital and experimental platforms that extend the work beyond the concert hall.

Chamber music + visual art

Visual concerts.

Visual art and theatrical design techniques are used to enhance the audience's listening experience of live classical and contemporary music while respecting the original musical composition.

These multimedia performances are presented in medium-size venues where the audience can be fully immersed in the atmosphere created by lights, projections, and stage design. CreArtBox works with visual artists, designers, dancers, and filmmakers to craft multi-layered performances centred on chamber music - collaborating with musicians from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Orchestra, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Visuality

2014 - 2016

A narrative inspired by studies by Sigmund Freud and Carl Rogers - a psychoanalyst exploring the deepest chambers of his mind through music, poetry, and observation.

Written by Guillermo Laporta and Jacopo Rampini, choreographed by Marissa Maislen. Fuses music by Sebastian Currier, Joshua Penman, Debussy, Paul Moravec, Jacob TV, Joan Tower, Marcos Fernández, and Frederic Rzewski. Dr. Reyn's inner mind is reflected in a commutable set - cubes surround the scene, the musicians, and the audience, using video-mapping to bring the world to life.

Staged productions.

Larger theatrical works produced by CreArtBox - operas, opera-ballets, multimedia opera, and the musical theatre piece that originally launched the organisation in Europe in 2006.

Each piece is conceived as a single, full-length theatrical production, with cast and creative team built around the score. The set, choreography, light and sound are written into the libretto, in a parallel creative process with the music.

Outreach & education.

CreArtBox makes its programming accessible beyond ticketed venues through partnerships with public libraries, schools, and community institutions in New York and beyond.

The outreach catalogue runs across three lines: a recurring residency at the Queens Public Library system through the NYC Culture Pass, masterclasses and school visits for chamber-music students, and a live-podcast concert series that brought programmed concerts into branch libraries during 2022.

CreArt Music Festival - Web experience

2021

An interactive web piece built around J. S. Bach - a fully online edition of the CreArt Music Festival during the pandemic.

Conceived as a stand-alone web experience rather than a streamed concert: the audience navigates Bach's repertoire through a custom interface, with chamber recordings, visual environments, and reading materials interlinked across the site. Hosted on the CreArtBox CDN as an archival work.
