CreArtBox announces its twelfth season

CreArtBox, the New York chamber music and multimedia ensemble, has announced its twelfth season. It runs from October 2026 to August 2027 and takes in ten dates.

The centre of the season is the New York Series: four productions at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, each at 7:30 pm. Currents (30 October 2026) is built around one idea, current - moving air, moving water, energy going from one place to another - and pairs Eric Moe's Laminar Flow in Upsidedown Creek and a new piece by the ensemble's flutist Guillermo Laporta with Brahms and both Schumanns. Winterlight (11 December 2026) opens with the world premiere of Hannah Selin's Tectonic Lullaby for piano quintet and closes with Stravinsky's Petroushka in a chamber arrangement. Pressure and Release (23 April 2027) is given over entirely to the open call: seven works, seven composers, one evening. Feverdream (7 May 2027) closes the season with Sibelius's G minor Piano Quintet.

Eleven of the works this season reached the programme through CreArtBox's open call for scores. They are by Eric Moe; Oliver Caplan; Yurui (Rain), Alex Burtzos, Luke Carlson, Gilad Cohen, Samantha Leigh Sack, Paul Novak and Sam Wu; and Zygmund de Somogyi and Eli Tausen á Lava.

Eric Moe is a Guggenheim fellow, honoured by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Eli Tausen á Lava is nominated for the 2026 Nordic Council Music Prize. Paul Novak and Sam Wu have both taken the ASCAP Foundation's Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Novak with the Leo Kaplan Award. Zygmund de Somogyi, a Royal Philharmonic Society composer for 2025 and a Fromm Foundation fellow, is also Festival ADAR's composer in residence: their score reached CreArtBox through the open call, and it closes the season in New York.

The open call has become the spine of the season. Eleven of the works we play this year came through it, more than in any season before, and in April an entire evening is given over to it.

Away from New York, the ensemble opens the Engelbach-Hart Music Festival on Illinois College's Fine Arts Series (6 November 2026, free admission), plays the Chamber Music Society of Louisville (28 February 2027) and brings Masked Sounds, a flute, cello and piano programme, to Saugerties in the Hudson Valley (18 April 2027).

In Finland, Laporta and pianist Josefina Urraca spend five days at the Kuopio Conservatory (5 to 9 October 2026) giving masterclasses and a workshop on building a chamber piece on stage - working closer to the audience, and drawing on design and other disciplines. They play one public concert during the residency, in the chamber hall of the Kuopio Music Centre next door.

In Queens, CreArtBox works with Culture Pass and other local organisations to make seats free or affordable for low-income communities.

The season ends in Spain. The seventh Festival ADAR runs from 2 to 15 August 2027 across rural Asturias: residencies, micro-concerts and "ADAR en Ruta" stops in small towns, played in churches, hórreos and mountain villages rather than concert halls.

Guillermo Laporta (flute) and Josefina Urraca (piano) founded CreArtBox in New York in 2013 and direct it, and Festival ADAR with it. The three string players hold chairs elsewhere: Emilie-Anne Gendron (violin) is a longtime member of the Momenta Quartet and one of the concertmasters of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Matthew Cohen (viola) is a special prize winner at the Primrose International Viola Competition and Artistic Director of Opus 71 Concerts; Julia Yang (cello) is a founding member of the Merz Trio, which won the Naumburg, and of Trio Phōs.

Tickets for Currents are on sale now through Eventbrite. Dates for the remaining New York Series productions go on sale in turn; touring dates are ticketed by their presenters.

CreArtBox is a New York-based chamber music and multimedia ensemble founded in 2013 by Guillermo Laporta and Josefina Urraca, performing at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music and on tour internationally.
