The Venue

Located in the earth of the Upper West Side (64th St & Central Park West)  New York Society for Ethical Culture is one of the secret gems of the city. A state of the art landmarked historic building that holds a distinct place in the city’s architectural history with a rich and vibrant performing arts history.

The series is presented by CreArtBox “a new ensemble devoted to multidisciplinary events” (Time Out New York), that merges classical and new music with visual art and technology to create unique performances described as “a wholly authentic, visually and aurally compelling experience” (Broadway world).

Led by Guillermo Laporta and Josefina Urraca, the group’s core regularly functions as a flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano music ensemble, but holds a flexible roster of over twenty NYC-based soloists, composers, choreographers, actors, and designers from the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Sleep No More Production, or Carnegie Hall ACJW Ensemble, among others.

The Design

CreArtBox’s creative team believes that the performing arts – dance, opera, music – should be mixed with recorded arts – filmmaking, video art and multimedia. That there must be meetings between scientists and playwrights, between set painters and architects, and between artists from New York and the rest of the world.
